The Burra is a 500 km route, and we limit the number of participants to only 13 in the event. A small group of bikepackers will take on the journey, but everyone will have a different adventure. You can speed to the finish line or enjoy what the heart of the KZN Midlands has to offer.

Route

Welcome to the Burra 500 Ultra Endurance Gravel Bikepacking Event, starting in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal. This challenging four-day cycling adventure will test your endurance, strength, and mental fortitude as you navigate some of the toughest terrain South Africa has to offer.Starting in June, during the winter season, riders can expect cool temperatures and hilly terrain throughout the route.

The event will kick off in Pietermaritzburg, known for its picturesque gardens and historical architecture. From there, riders will make their way through the rolling hills and lush greenery of the surrounding countryside.

 

The hills in the area will provide a challenging and rewarding experience for cyclists as they ascend and descend through the stunning scenery. The route will take riders through the valleys of the Midlands, where they will pass through small towns and villages, experiencing the unique culture and hospitality of the locals.One of the most challenging sections of the route will be the climb up the Drakensberg Mountains, which will test riders' strength and endurance. But the breathtaking views of the mountain range and the surrounding valleys will make it all worth it.As riders make their way back towards Pietermaritzburg, they will be rewarded with the satisfaction of having completed one of the toughest cycling events in the country.The Burra 500 Ultra Endurance Gravel Bikepacking Event is not for the faint of heart. Inzinga Ridge Climb

The Inzinga Ridge Climb is a challenging cycling segment located in Impendle, South Africa, within the beautiful province of KwaZulu-Natal. This segment covers a distance of 13.97km with a total elevation gain of 610m, making it one of the toughest climbs in the region.The climb begins at an elevation of 1,224m and reaches a peak altitude of 1,800m, with an elevation difference of 576m.
